COVID-19 Community Relief Fund
Frequently Asked Questions
1. How much of my donation goes to support individuals and families affected by the COVID-19 outbreak?
100% of donations contributed to the COVID-19 Community Relief Fund will go to support families impacted by the health and financial consequences of the coronavirus outbreak in Putnam County.
2. What kind of impact will my donation support?
Your donation will support the basic needs of families disproportionally impacted by COVID-19. Over the next few weeks, months, and years, families who've been laid off or sickened by this virus will face significant economic strains. Your donation will make a positive impact in their lives by providing assistance with groceries, clothing, gas & transportation, rent, utilities, and other immediate needs resulting from coronavirus.
3. How will the funds be distributed?
The United Way works closely with over ten Putnam County social service agencies that work directly with those most vulnerable to the economic and health impacts of COVID-19. Our funds will be distributed via a special micro-grant program that is designed to release funds immediately to vetted nonprofits. Our application process is designed to provide as little "red tape" as possible so that your gift gets to the greatest need.
4. I am a social service agency that is interested in applying for a micro-grant. Where do I apply?
If you are a social service agency that is working to improve the health, education, and financial stability in Putnam County, IN, please complete the online application HERE.
5. Will the United Way update me on my impact?
The United Way knows that difference-makers like you deserve to be updated on the good work achieved through your gift. We promise to report back on your impact each month during the height of the COVID-19 crisis and every 6 months thereafter while the funding is still available. Be sure to share your email address with us so we can send you the impact reports.
6. Isn't the government providing a lot of relief through their stimulus plans?
We are seeing a lot of wonderful things happening with communities, businesses, and legislation that will all provide financial support for people struggling during this crisis. However, we know there are significant need gaps, especially for those individuals and families who are considered A.L.I.C.E. population (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, but Employed). It is this segment of our Putnam County population (39%) that will be significantly impacted by the economic downturn and employment lay-offs. The supports we are seeing with private companies and government are helpful, but will not address other areas of financial stability for those living on the margins in our Putnam County.
7. I am a Putnam County resident directly affected by coronavirus's economic impact and am in need of financial assistance. How do I receive assistance?
The United Way of Putnam County works through local human service agencies to provide meaningful impact in our community. Once we begin distributing funds through our relief efforts, we will update our COVID-19 information page with a list of currently funded services available to those impacted by the current crisis.
